    Maddy Deshotels, Intern

Maddy Deshotels believes in the power each client has to impart change in their own life. Her goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to explore and process what they experience. She implements a wide range of therapeutic techniques, and firmly believes in the importance of the therapeutic alliance. Maddy wants her clients to create and reach goals that align with their values, gain insight into their lives, and process emotions openly and freely. Mindfulness, cognitive based therapy, and client homework are major aspects of Maddy’s counseling style. She believes client work must happen outside of the therapy session in order for the client to bring the insight and change that happens in session into their life.

Maddy earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology in 2018, and is currently pursuing her Master of Science degree in Counselor Education with an anticipated graduation in December of 2021 from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is a Counseling Intern, and will become a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) following graduation.

Maddy works with children as young as 4 and clients through adulthood. She works with those experiencing a range of struggles and goals, primarily with those who are experiencing anxiety, depression, adjustment, relationship concerns, and social skills. Maddy is a person-centered therapist who pulls from Strengths Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She also incorporates mindfulness techniques into session and client homework. Maddy meets clients where they are, and helps them create goals that bring them closer to their values.

She knows how much strength and courage it takes to reach out and ask for help. Maddy strives to create an environment that offers genuine support. She says “I truly believe everyone can benefit from therapy, and that you do not need to be in crisis to start. Therapy gives you the tools needed to better navigate your mental health.”
