Hello, my name is Dr. Anita Pool, and I am a licensed professional counselor! My primary areas of focus include young children, women, and professionals. I specialize in working with children ages three through 10 who are experiencing behavioral, social, and emotional difficulties, as well as issues such as family-related challenges, grief, and anxiety. I am a firm believer in early intervention and understand the importance of empowering young people with the necessary tools to be successful. I love little people and have worked with them for over 20 years! I am also passionate about supporting parents to develop effective parenting skills that promote positive child development and healthy relationships.
In addition to working with young children and their parents, I also enjoy counseling women who are dealing with issues such as life transitions, caring for aging parents, and other circumstances that impact women’s emotional and mental health. I also have experience working with professionals who are navigating work-life balance and managing work-related stress. I know that being a wife, mother, and grandmother, while also managing our professional lives can be difficult and stressful at times!
Whether working with children or adults, I take a person-centered approach that emphasizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship as the foundation for meaningful change. I strive to create a warm, safe, and welcoming space where clients feel genuinely seen and supported. My work is also grounded in a trauma-informed perspective, recognizing that many individuals have been impacted by trauma or adverse life experiences. With all of my clients, I utilize various techniques and interventions, including solution-focused, CBT, and mindfulness-based techniques. I also incorporate play-based, expressive, and creative interventions specific to an individual’s developmental needs. I enjoy providing a safe space for children (and adults!) to explore their feelings and gain the tools they need to be successful at home, school, work, and in the community. I primarily provide individual counseling; however, I also have sessions that include other family members when necessary.
In my spare time, I enjoy family gatherings with my five children and six grandchildren, spending quality time with friends, reading a good book, and traveling as often as I am able!
